ARCHIVERS STARTED: 
 
	Archiving was started at 14:35 GMT, Feb. 1. At 
this time the 10 meter flux array and the 4m fat T sensors 
are not running. The sonic intecomparison experiment is 
not up. All other sensors are running. 
We are still in a checkout phase. 
 

MORNING STATUS: 
 
	System up and running. The 10m flux 
array and 4m fast T flux are still down. 
The ati.4m.flux was spiking on u and w components. 
 

MORNING STATUS: 
 
	System up and running. 
At about 8:00 am local, the disk was 94% 
full. The 10m flux array is lacking a sonic 
and a fast T. The 4m flux array is missing a 
fast T. Everything else is running. 
 

MORNING STATUS: 
 
	Base system running ok. Still no 10m 
sonic or fast T. The 4m sonic spiking during the 
night. The 10m wind speed has gone south. 
Everything else looks ok. 
 

COVARS: 
 
	covars have been reconfigured for 
the setup of the KAIJO DENKI sonic. They 
were resetarted at 16:30 GMT. 
 

MORNING STATUS: 
 
	System up and running. 10m flux array 
not installed. The 10m wind speed has gone bad 
again. The 4m q sensor did not show as much activity 
as the 10m q. Maybe there is an error in calibration 
factors or moisture on the windows. The KD sonic 
data was not archived last night. 
 

RESTART of ARCHIVERS: 
 
	Due to problems with rserial not 
communicating with sensors, all ingesters 
were stopped and restarted. At this time 
the archivers were restarted. This occurred 
at about 22:30 GMT. The new wind direction 
angles for the 1m and 10m sensors were entered 
before archivers were restarted. 
 

MORNING STATUS: 
 
	System up and running. Still no 
10m ati or fast T, no 4m fast T. The 4m 
sonic is still spiking. All other sensors 
look good. 
 

MORNING STATUS: 
 
	System running, still no 10m 
sonic or fast T, no 4m fast T. The 4m 
sonic spiked during the night. All other 
sensors are looking good. 
 

EVENING STATUS: 
 
	Spiking continues on the ati sonic. 
Everything else looks good. The crontab 
for daily_S_plots worked. 
 

MORNING STATUS: 
 
	System up and running. 10m flux does 
not exist. The 4m fast T does not exist. 
Spiking continues on the ati 4m flux. Everything 
else looks good. 
The tape drive was acting up this morning. It took 
3 tries to get an archive done. A second complete 
archive was done to see if things kept working. It 
was successful, so I assume the drive is ok. Maybe 
it had something to do with my playing around with 
restore yesterday. 
 

NEW ATI SONICS: 
 
	Installation of the new sonics has 
been completed. The flux tower now has its 
full set of sensors. The 4m ati comparison 
sonic is still down. Refer to logbook entry 
under sonics for sensor performance. 
 

MORNING STATUS: 
 
	System is running. No w component on 
the 10m ati or v component on the 4m ati. The fast 
T data look good. The q at 4m looks noisy however it 
is tracking with the 4m fast T. All other parameters 
appear ok. 
 

SYSTEM DOWN: 
 
	Data collection was halted for a short 
time, ~17:15 GMT to ~17:35 GMT. This was due to 
a lockup of the console display. An attempt was 
made to bring pinot windows up with "xstart". 
 

MORNING STATUS 
 
The 10m prop-vane went down about 0900. 
The 10m ati sonic is down also. 
 
 

MORNING STATUS & WX 
 
It is snowing this morning with perhaps an inch 
of accumulation.  Temperature -3 deg C, RH ~ 99%, 
winds from the east at 4 m/s. 
 
The 10m prop vane is down again. 
 
The 1m RH is at 100%, all others are <100%, including the 
1a unit which is slightly below 100%.  All are >= 98%. 
 
4m fast T is out. 
 
The Gill sonic appears to have run very cleanly over night, 
and is currently spike-free. 
 
The 4m ATI is currently spiking sporadically, as well as the 
10m ATI.  These spikes do not appear to be synchronous on 
as seen yesterday. 
 
There are some intermittent spikes on the Kaijo-Denki w. 
 
 

MORNING STATUS 
 
Gary Zimmerman took the 10m ATI sonic with him 
last night to search for the noise problem.   
The 10m fast T was removed from the array.  We 
also left the intercomparison sonic turned off. 
 
The 4m ATI was working okay when we left last  
night, but this morning was spiking heavily. 
 
The 10m prop vane is still down. 
 
The Kaijo Denki was spiking this morning, perhaps 
because of the rain that fell earlier. 
 
 

 
cockpits all shut down last night (due to memory leak I think), so 
we did not have the traces to look at. However, here is how it 
looks this morning. 
 
 
Weather: rain 
 
Sonics: 
   most are seeing occasional spikes, due to rain?  
   ati.4m has gone completely south, spiking rapidly on all  
   channels (simultaneously). 
 
Kryptons: 
   values are offscale at 40 - 60, water on the lenses? 
 
Fast T's: 
   ati.10m is out, probably hit by a fat raindrop. 
 
Humchrometers: 
   1,2,4 and 7m look nominal, meaning that humidities are close or 
   ABOVE 100%. 10m rh shows 124%. Temperatures look reasonable. 
 
Propvanes: 
   all operational, except for 10m wind speed. 
 
ORGs: 
   I don't know what to look for. We are seeing some signal on  
   ORG.700, but we have yet to see anything on ORG.100. 
 
Rad Farm: 
   Scan of sensors looks okay on this dark morning

   q_h2o.ati.10m looks good. q_h20.ati.4m has these strange 
   excursions where the signal will slowly rise and fall 
   over the course of a minute or so.

marigold stopped sending data at 1544. Recovered at 1645.

   q_h2o.ati.4m is showing the same problem as has been seen before. 
   Reading drifted up to above 15 g/Kg and back down to approx 6, several 
   times last night with a response time of about 2 minutes. 
   q_h2o.ati.10m showed a slow rise to above 15 g/Kg last night. This 
   is consistent with having condensation on the lenses. 
 

Morning report for Sunday 23 Feb 
The entire system appeared to be down with a /write error. 
This was a false alarm. See separate logbook entry. 
A check of the sensors showed all sensors fine except: 
       : rh.psyc.2m shoed excursions from the approx 80-100% range down 
	 into the 50% range. 
       : prop.10m still out of commission	 		        
       : q_h2o.4m shos approx 15 (g kg-1 ?). Possibly condensate on lens 
       : q_h2o.10m shos approx 15 (g kg-1 ?). Possibly condensate on lens 
 
 

  The data_stats program, which is run from crontab every day 
at 12:10 gmt reported a spurious time in the flux053160000 archive 
file from channel 41 (which is an error) after at 19:44:03. 
  It eventually filled up the / directory with error messages and 
the printer ran out of paper. 
 
   
 

  Rebooted aster at 15:50 gmt to clear keyboard problem. 
Started adams and data acquisition programs. 
 
  When in dumb terminal mode, outside of X, Aster's keyboard has 
been been in an unusable state for the past several days. 
When trying to login a single character entry 
results in two carriage returns and no echo of the character. 
No amount of stty's would clear it. 
 
  We were able to bring up X on Aster from Pinot, but we didn't 
want to rely on this for too long.

   The propvanes failed at 2200cst last night in association with the 
   death of cosmos. Only on power cycling of cosmos did they restart at 
   0900 cst. 
 
Humchrometers: 
   All standard levels 1, 2, 4, 7, 10m look OK. The 1am is bad. 
 
Sonics: 
   OK except a little spiking on the 4.ati 
 
Fast T's: 
   Okay. 
 
Kryptons: 
   Look okay all night. 
     
Barometers: 
   The barometers were down  from JD57,1700Z until JD59, 1500Z when 
   they were restarted by un and re plugging the data cable.

ADAM CRASH: 
 
	While Gordon was working on cocklebur it 
locked up on him. This required a reboot of 
cocklebur. For some reason, the ingesters to the 
ADAMS went down. ADAMS were down for about 
10 minutes; backup at 21:15 GMT. 
 

ADAM SHUTDOWN: 
 
	Communications to the ADAMS shutdown 
at 22:45Z. At this time the reason is unknown. 
The system was backup by 22:56Z. 
 

MORNING STATUS: 
 
	System up and running. The 4m 
ati sonics spiked throughout the night while 
the 10m ati had little spiking. Everything else 
looks good. 
 

RAIN CALIBRATION ROUTINES: 
 
	Since it is raining today, we decided 
to fix the rain calibration routines. There was 
an error in the call to "pow". It wanted floats 
for input parameters. 
We are now getting rain information on cockpit. 
Do we want to add this parameter to the daily  
weather plot? 
 

Restarted covar on cosmos at 18:35 gmt.  The new covar has the 
corrected calibration function for the rain monitors.

   Reading off scale, probably due to water on the lenses.

Brought down covars on all adams.  Removed all but 
jday 64 and 65 from covar files, and restarted 
covars.  Time: 15:45-16:00 gmt  jday=65

   Analog channels on marigold (fast q's, t's, GILL) were 
   not transmitting from 11:45 to 15:15 gmt, when 
   it was reset with "data_off marigold" and 
   "data_on marigold".  Other ADAMS OK. 
 
Rad Farm: 
   All radiation data appears normal 
   All soil data appears normal 
 
Propvanes: 
   All wind speed data appears normal 
   All wind direction data appears normal 
 
Humchrometers: 
   7m psyc was not operating from 3:30 to 14:15 gmt, when 
   Steve S recycled power.  This stopped the covars for 
   all psycs since they're all in the same group - software 
   upgrade needed here. 
   2m psyc rh drifted during the night. 
 
Sonics: 
   All sonic  data appears normal 
   Relatively few spikes on 4m ati sonics, more spikes on 10m ati. 
 
Fast Ts: 
   All fast T  data appears normal 
     
Fast water vapor: 
   Fast Kr data does not look right - probably moisture on the lens.

   Lightning last night.  Ground fog this morning.

went down at 6:00Z and still down. The 2m 
rh was bad from 3:45 to 12:00Z. It will be 
looked at. Everything else looks good. 
Marigold had some spurious data channels

	System running with no major problems 
thru the night. The 1m prop speed died again 
right after a rain storm. The 4m q_h2o was down 
due to moisture on the window. Everything else 
is looking good. 
 

MORNING STATUS: 
 
	System running, all ADAMS went down at 13:38Z. 
There is no obvious reason as to why. 
The fast Ts are still down and the 2m rh has gone down. 
All other sensors look good. 
The ADAMS were brought back up at 14:35Z.

	System running, cosmos and ragwort went 
down at 01:37Z. Error message in syslog refers to 
"no activity from ADAM, ingest stopped". 
The 10m ati also went down last night. 
The 2m rh is still down. 
The adams were backup at 14:20Z. The 10m ati 
back on the air at 14:30Z.
